Last week, the Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers were in heated trade talk over the closer, but negotiations stalled. Papelbon is under contract for 2015 and has a 2016 option. Earlier in the offseason, the 34-year-old asked to be traded to a World Series contender.
"Things are still alive," Amaro told Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com. "We're still having discussion - and not just with one club."
Amaro suggested Papelbon's contract could be an impediment to a potential trade.
"I'm not sure,” he said. “We'll see. It’s complicated. There are a lot of different factors involved."
The right-hander will make $13 million in 2015 and his option for the following season vests if he can finish 55 games or 100 combined games between both 2014 and 2015.
