Just one week after designating Dayan Viciedo for assignment, the Chicago White Sox parted ways with the outfielder. He was DFA'ed to make room for Gordon Beckham on the 40-man roster, but now he is officially released. The White Sox will be forced to pay Viciedo $733,000 this season to cover one-sixth of his non-gaurenteed $4.4 million arbitration salary.
Last season, Viciedo slashed .231/.281/.405 and hit 21 home runs. He also added a career-high 58 RBI's over 145 games and 563 plate appearances. However, he struggled striking out 122 times. -Evan Petzold According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Chicago White Sox have inked Emilio Bonifacio to a one-year deal worth $4-million. Bonifacio is 29-years-old and is known as an effective utility man. Later, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported that the deal for Bonifacio also includes a club option for the 2016 season. Bonifacio can play six different positions and will join his fifth team since the beginning of the 2013 season. It is quite possible that he could land a full time job with the White Sox. Bonifacio is another solid addition to the busy White Sox this offseason. They have already acquired Melky Cabrera, Adam LaRoche, Jeff Samardzija andDavid Robertson this winter.
With both the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs last season, Bonifacio took part in 110 games and managed 426 plate appearances. He slashed .259/.305/.345, while adding three home runs and 24 RBI's for both squads in 2014. Bonifacio stole 26 bases and drew just as many walks. He will provide talent off the bench for the White Sox, but do not rule him out for a starting spot if he impresses the coaching staff during Spring Training. - Evan Petzold |
