The Cubs have added left-handed pitcher Jon Lester and manager Joe Maddon this season. They are reportedly 'kicking the tires' on free agent righty James Shields, according to David Kaplan of CSN Chicago. Shields and Maddon have a good relationship because of their pitcher/coach combination on the Tampa Bay Rays from 2006-2011.
Shields has not found many takers on the $100 million contract that he is looking for, but that does not mean he wont eventually find what he is looking for. Kaplan also reports that their are several clubs that the 33-year-old is deciding upon.
Shields is expected to sign by the end of the week.
